I'm staying Up All Night for WA families with sick kids

I’m so proud to be taking on Up All Night again this year — walking 42km through the night to support Ronald McDonald House Charities WA.

This cause has a very personal meaning for me. Growing up, I spent most of my childhood in hospitals — not because I was sick myself, but because my mum battled cancer for 11 years (and lost the fight). Many evenings and weekends were spent by her side, doing my homework and studies in hospital rooms, having dinner with her and simply fitting family life around treatment.

While Ronald McDonald House supports families facing the opposite situation — parents caring for a sick child — I understand how illness can dramatically affect families. And here in WA, where many families have to travel huge distances to Perth for treatment, having somewhere to stay and a supportive environment close to their child is incredibly important.

Last year, I completed the 42km VERY slowly, with less training than advisable… while also “plogging” my way around the course, picking up litter behind the crowd!  This year, I’ll be back with my rubbish bag — hopefully just a little faster!

I’m also especially proud to be walking alongside some of my WRITE Solutions colleagues, with WRITE supporting this wonderful event through in-kind waste management services.

42km. One night. A few blisters and sore legs. Some litter picking. And hopefully lots of funds raised for WA families who really need the support.
