My Up All Night challenge is
in celebration of my ,
Akira Maria

Akira-Maria Te Akau-Marshall

My niece Akira-Maria who is now 9 and about to turn 10 in January, had a rough start to life. In a nutshell, the below is from her mum and explains what Akira has been through and the purpose of my walk.
“So when she was 2 weeks old, she had a major stroke caused by sepsis, causing a blood clot in her brain, which lead to a stroke. It caused her to be unsettled and irritable, then her temperature broke. She was rushed to Taupo, (central North Island, NZ) then choppered to Waikato Hospital and put into an induced coma where they needed to breathe for her. Then she was transferred to Starship Hosital where she stayed for 3 months. She spent 2 weeks in a coma, then slowly bought her out. After running tests and everything else to see the full extent of the damage the stroke had caused to her brain, the scans showed her 3/4 (3 quarters) brain dead. Never to walk, talk, communicate, pretty much close to a vegetable. But shes here today, with the dead parts of her brain shrivelled up, if you don't know the story, you wouldn't think there was anything wrong with her. She still has trouble with motors kills, is highly epileptic, and more then likely is going to develop diabetes in the coming years. She still has regular check ups with top doctors from everywhere that can’t believe she is how she is. Always comment saying, the scan of her brain is from a totally different person.”

I'm staying Up All Night for WA families with sick kids

This March, we're taking part in Up All Night, walking overnight to help provide a home away from home and services that support the well-being of WA families with sick kids.

For families with sick kids needing to travel far from home to access specialist medical care, sleepless nights are sadly just part of the deal.
By walking a night in their shoes, I can help these families at a time when they need it most.

The funds I raise can help provide accommodation, support and stability for families with sick kids who just want to spend loving time together during the hardest time of their lives.

Could you give a generous donation to help Ronald McDonald House WA continue to provide support to families with sick kids, 24/7 365 days a year?

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of WA families with sick kids through your kindness!
